The Tanzanian public education system operates on the 7-4-2-3 year school plan. Children start with 7 years of primary school, followed by 4 years of secondary school, leading into 2 years of advanced level schooling, and 3 years of college. Children have  their first opportunity to start primary school at 7 years old (equivalent to 1st grade in the US).

According to the Tanzania Education Policy Data Centre, most of the children manage to complete the primary education i.e 85% which is the first seven years and unfortunately the number decreases to 34% in the gross enrolment for secondary education. Most of the students come from disadvantaged backgrounds, therefore fail to meet the price of education for their lower and higher secondary level. Through, Bright Horizon Academy Initiative we hope to re-write their story!

Situated in a serene and conducive environment, the school will offer comprehensive learning opportunities and support services to empower students to reach their full potential and become leaders of positive change in their communities.

A Vision Takes Root

The journey began with a dream - a dream to create an educational institution that transcends socio-economic barriers. Securing a 10-acre piece of land in Moita, Arusha, marked the foundational step toward turning this vision into reality.

Bright Horizon Academy is designed to cater to students who face economic hardships, limiting their access to quality education. Our goal is to empower these young minds, breaking the cycle of disadvantage and opening doors to opportunities that education can bring. Our goal is to in still a lifelong love of learning, a spirit of resilience, and a commitment to service and leadership in every student.

Academic Curriculum: Bright Horizon Academy will follow the Tanzanian national curriculum supplemented with innovative teaching methods and extracurricular activities to provide a well-rounded education.

Extracurricular Activities: Students will have access to a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, arts and crafts, music and drama, debate and public speaking, environmental conservation projects, and community service initiatives.

Leadership Development: The school will prioritize leadership development through mentorship programs, student government, and leadership workshops to empower students to become effective leaders and change agents in their communities.

 Community Engagement:Bright Horizon Academy isn't just a standalone institution; it's an integral part of the community.

Parent and Community Involvement: Bright Horizon Academy will actively engage parents and community members in the educational process through parent-teacher associations, community forums, and outreach programs to foster collaboration and support.

Partnerships: The school aims to establish partnerships with individuals, local organizations, businesses, non government and government agencies , the international community to enhance learning opportunities, access resources, and promote long-sustainable development of the  initiative.

This  will generally foster a sense of  understanding the importance of giving back and being active participants in societal development to our students.

Land Acquisition and Location

After completing our first instalment we have been able to secure space for our school project. Situated on a sprawling 10-acre piece of land in Moita, Arusha, our space is basically isolated away from the day to day city activities ; it's an environment carefully chosen to inspire learning and surrounded by the beauty of nature. Moita provides the perfect backdrop for a school that aims to create a serene yet vibrant atmosphere for education.

 

Construction Phases and Future Vision

Building Blocks: Construction Phases

Phase 1 - Laying Foundations

In this phase, we aim to initiate construction, laying the foundation for the academic blocks, administrative facilities, and essential amenities. The estimated cost for Phase 1 is $100000, with funds generated through EduVenture tour operations, donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events.

 

Phase 2 - Infrastructure Development

The second phase involves developing the core infrastructure, including classrooms, laboratories, and communal spaces. Estimated at $150000, this phase is pivotal in shaping the physical landscape of Bright Horizon Academy.

 

Phase 3 - Finishing Touches

The final phase encompasses finishing touches, landscaping, and the installation of modern amenities. This phase, with an estimated cost of $250000 will bring the vision of Bright Horizon Academy to life.
